A PETITION is to be launched in the town centre this morning (Saturday, October 17) to support workers following rumours up to 800 jobs could be lost at Tata Steel's Scunthorpe plant. As reported yesterday, union chiefs believe 800 jobs will go, however some outlets reported it could be up to 1,000. The Scunthorpe jobs at risk are believed to be in the plate mill and the coke ovens, with Tata set to make an announcement on Tuesday.
