Discussions are taking place to reopen the former TJ Hughes store in Scunthorpe town centre and use it for pop up shops.
The talks are about using it as community space for voluntary activities, art exhibitions, yoga classes or dance classes - until the building is sold.
It has been empty since the store closed in 2011.
Carol Thornton, development worker with Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire (VANL), said: "We hope groups can stage exhibitions, dance groups and pop up charity shops....
