The Scunthorpe Tata Steel works is expecting to recruit a record number of female apprentices this year.
The company has revealed that seven potential female rookies have been identified among the 50 new starters for this September.
It will be the ninth successive year the Scunthorpe steelworks has taken on school-leavers.
But in previous years the number of female recruits has never been more than three.
