TATA Steel has vowed to do all it can to minimise hardship for the 900 Scunthorpe steelworkers facing redundancy.
Yesterday the firm confirmed the job cuts will be made following the huge pressures facing the UK steel industry, notably from cheaper Chinese imports, high energy costs and the exchange rate.
It will see the town's plate mill mothballed and the Dawes Lane coke ovens closed.
350 workers are employed at the plate mill and 140 on Dawes Lane.
