Also known as the summer solstice, it occurs when the tilt of a planet's semi-axis, in either northern or southern hemispheres, is most inclined toward the star that it orbits - in earth's case, the sun. The exact time this will happen this year is 11.34pm tonight (June 20).
It's usually June 21 but because it's a Leap Year, it's a day earlier.
