Gliding event CANCELLED due to bad weather forecast
A GLIDING event that was set to take place tomorrow (Friday, August 19) has been cancelled because of the bad weather forecast for this weekend.
The event had been organised to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Lung cancer death rate in North Lincolnshire higher than national...
THE North Lincolnshire death rate of people diagnosed with lung cancer is significantly higher than the national average, figures have revealed.
In the period 2009 to 2013, 77.40 people in North Lincolnshire died of lung cancer out of 100,000 people, compared to a national average of 62.83.
During the same period, the number of people diagnosed with lung cancer in our region was also significantly higher than the national average.

£10k grant sets sailing club up for smoother waters
A BARTON-based club is aiming to train the next generation of sailors after receiving a £10,000 grant from North Lincolnshire Council.
The North Lincolnshire and Humberside Sailing Club, on Pasture Road North, has put the money towards the cost of six new RS Feva boats.
It was allocated the cash from the council's community grant fund and added it to a £10,000 Sport England grant and around £4,000 raised by the club itself to buy the boats.

Singer Andy Holloway is Up In The Air!
SCUNTHORPE singer Andy Holloway released his second single this week.
The track, called Up In The Air, follows his debut release I'm Done With You Baby, which was made available in February.
It was released as an online download on Thursday, August 18 through record company Downtown Artists and is available at sites including iTunes and Amazon.
Andy, who lives in the Ashby area, has worked with songwriter, producer and musical director Simon Ellis on the project.

Heartfelt tributes paid to popular town florist Janet Wilkinson
TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Scunthorpe florist.
Janet Wilkinson owned and ran Garlands Florists on Frodingham Road in the town with her sister Maureen Roe for 18 years.
Mrs Wilkinson, of High Street in Burringham, passed away at Scunthorpe General Hospital on August 9, aged 70.
Her family have paid tribute to a "loving" woman with a "great sense of humour".
Her husband Kenneth said: "She was not just my wife, she was my friend."

15 hour golf-a-thon raises more than £5,000 for charity
A GROUP of golfers from North Lincolnshire have taken part in a 15-hour golf challenge to raise more than £5,000 for charity.
Called the Longest Golf Day Challenge, the event puts two teams against each other over the course of four rounds of golf to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

NEW figures reveal a pet dog is stolen every week.
A total of 72 dogs have been stolen across the Humberside Police force area in the past 18 months – often to be sold or bred from.
Staffordshire bull terriers were by far the most preyed upon breed with 23 stolen.

MOBILE safety cameras will be used at various sites across North Lincolnshire this week.
Fixed and mobile cameras are used by Safer Roads Humber to monitor motorists' speed at 85 different locations in northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.
